Scandit Launches Browser-Based Barcode Scanner

Scandit has launched Barcode Scanner SDK for the Web, providing capabilities previously available only in mobile apps to mobile and desktop web browsers.

Consumers, retailers and business partners can utilize the camera on their smartphones, tablets or PCs to scan retail or industrial barcodes, as well as QR and other 2D codes, directly into a browser. The functionality complements mobile apps for a variety of scan-based activities.

A recent Scandit consumer survey of more than 1,500 consumers in the U.S., UK and Germany found that 58% of customers often or sometimes purchase items they have seen in a retail store at a later time, using a mobile device.

With Scandit Barcode Scanner SDK, customers can:

  • Scan product barcodes using multiple devices without the need to download an app;
  • Purchase the item or add it to a wish list or gift registry; and
  • Scan loyalty cards to apply discounts.

Additionally, the Scandit Barcode Scanner SDK enables store employees to perform shipping and receiving tasks and certify proof of delivery. Business partners can place replenishment orders, check inventory and confirm the status of their deliveries. The product works with platforms including SAP Hybris, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, IBM Websphere Commerce and Oracle Enterprise Ecommerce Platform. It is also supported on the majority of mobile and desktop browsers, including iOS 11.
