In an ongoing effort to restructure its operations, improve efficiencies and better align its costs, Bed Bath & Beyond is reportedly pursuing the sale of its Christmas Tree Shops and Cost Plus divisions and closing contact centers in Ocoee, Fla. and Layton, Utah, affecting approximately 230 and 285 employees, respectively.
Bloomberg reported the potential sale of the 70-store Christmas Tree Shops and 260-unit Cost Plus banners but did not disclose the buyer or buyers involved. Bed Bath & Beyond did not respond to a request for confirmation or comment.
An anonymous but detailed post on a site called The Layoff said Bed Bath & Beyond was expected to announce the sale before its next earnings call, which scheduled for July 8, 2020. The company will then focus on its Bed Bath & Beyond and buybuy Baby stores, with renovations and new concepts “extremely different from any kind we have seen.”
Bed Bath & Beyond disclosed the Ocoee closure in a W.A.R.N. letter and the International Business Times reported the layoffs in Layton, citing a letter sent to employees.
