Walmart Introduces At-Risk-Only Curbside Pickup Windows At 2,400 Stores

Walmart is launching a special curbside grocery pickup hour for those most at-risk for COVID-19 at 2,400 stores. The retailer will reserve the hour between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. for shoppers who are over the age of 60, first responders, have disabilities or are designated as high-risk by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Customers will see a prompt on Walmart.com/grocery that lays out the qualifications needed to select an “At Risk Only” slot. Qualifying shoppers will gain access to the extra delivery window, but can otherwise proceed with creating their order as normal.

“Now more than ever, families are relying on our pickup service to help get quality, fresh groceries to their homes as safely as possible,” said Tom Ward, SVP, Customer Product at Walmart in a statement. “These are extraordinary times, and we are constantly looking for ways we can help deliver that same peace of mind to all our customers, particularly those who are most at-risk.”

Walmart’s curbside pickup program is contactless, and associates have been following enhanced distancing and sanitation procedures to further prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The retailer is also limiting store traffic to five people per 1,000 square feet to enforce social distancing practices.
