Report: Best Buy To Test Using 250 Stores As Delivery Hubs

Best Buy will pilot a ship-from-store hub model at 250 stores, according to CNBC. Best Buy CEO Corie Barry made the announcement on a call with reporters, crediting the spike in online shopping as the reason for the experiment.

All Best Buy stores already handle some online orders, but the affected locations will be specially designated to handle a higher volume of packages. The approach is aimed at speeding up deliveries and improving efficiencies during the holidays and beyond.

The chosen stores were selected based on their size, proximity to shipping carriers and ability to support same-day and next-day deliveries. Approximately 60% of Best Buy’s online orders are either picked up at stores or shipped from them, making the hubs a natural evolution of the retailer’s current operations.

“It’s not about less stores,” said Barry during the call. “It’s probably about using stores differently and meeting the customer where they want to be met.”
