GNC Names New COO, Chief Merchandising Officer

GNC Executive Appointments

GNC has announced two new appointments to its leadership team: Nate Frazier has been promoted to EVP, COO, and former Zappos executive Karlyn Mattson has joined the company as Chief Merchandising Officer. Both Frazier and Mattson will report to newly appointed CEO Josh Burris.

Frazier was most recently SVP of Operations, leading GNC’s U.S. and Canada stores and operations teams. He played an instrumental role in the company’s retail restructuring last year as well as driving a number of initiatives to improve the GNC consumer experience. Frazier joined GNC in 2017 as VP of Franchise Operations; earlier in his career he held leadership roles at retailers including Abercrombie & Fitch, GameStop, Mattress Firm and Helzberg Diamonds.

At Zappos, Mattson was General Manager of Merchandising Strategy, New Business Development and Women’s Fashion. Prior to Zappos, Mattson served as Chief Merchandising Officer at Famous Footwear and she also has held senior leadership roles in merchandising at Target and Macy’s. Mattson will now steer GNC’s omnichannel merchandising, brand strategy, marketing and product development as the retailer works to meet growing consumer demand.

“Nate has been a catalyst of our retail turnaround, and we know that Karlyn’s wealth of consumer-centric merchandising expertise will result in a better experience for our consumers,” said Burris in a statement. “These moves will further strengthen GNC’s executive leadership team and accelerate our business transformation as we work to take our iconic brand to new heights.”
