Big Data and analytics have become key areas of investment for retailers as they strive to get more value out of information they collect across communication and commerce touch points.

Claire’s, Inc. (“Claire’s”), a specialty retailer of fashion jewelry and accessories for girls and young women, has implemented the cloud-based platform from 1010data to better integrate and leverage data being collected across the entire business.

To enhance competitiveness, while still providing an excellent customer experience, Claire’s needed an improved analytics solution that it could apply globally that provided a “single source of truth,” according to Rob Cole, SVP Information Technologies of Claire’s, Inc.

Using 1010data, Claire’s can integrate data across the entire enterprise, and provide access to employees based on their roles within the organization. As a result, team members can access the data that is most relevant to their needs and analytical objectives.

Cole also noted that the 1010data platform and analytical tools provided the ability to better understand market basket history when reviewing and optimizing its merchandise assortment. The 1010data platform provides Claire’s with the analytics and tools to take all sales transactions at the merchandise style level for the time period being analyzed and cross-reference them to the specific products that make up that market basket that is being reviewed based on historical customer buying behavior.

For example, Cole noted that Claire’s held an ear piercing contest in which store associates were rewarded if they achieved year-over-year sales growth for the annual event in their respective stores. The 1010data platform helped the retailer better understand specific product sales and recognize employees for their achievements. All of this was done with minimal IT involvement.

“Standardizing Claire’s globally on 1010data’s big data discovery platform, including business intelligence and data warehousing has further integrated our teams worldwide,” Cole said. “As a result, the entire Claire’s team is able to better serve our friends (customers). Overall, 1010data provides us with a single, flexible platform to store, process and analyze data at its most granular level with minimal need for data aggregations and data marts to support the business.”
