Discount variety retailer Dollar Tree has hired Michael Creedon, Jr. as its Chief Operating Officer. The hire follows a tumultuous first half of 2022, during which the company’s board was “reconstituted” in March, with the appointment of former Dollar General CEO Rick Dreiling as the Executive Chairman of Dollar Tree’s board, and the departure of five members of its C-suite in June.

Creedon will replace former COO Thomas O’Boyle, who was one of the C-suite executives who left the company during the overhaul. Dollar Tree President and CEO Mike Witynski had served as interim COO following O’Boyle’s departure.

From 2013 to 2021, Creedon worked with Advance Auto Parts, most recently as the company’s EVP of U.S. Stores. Prior to his EVP appointment in March 2021, Creedon served as the President of U.S. Stores and Division President for Advance Auto Parts’ North division, which included Autopart International, from 2017 to 2020. Creedon also filled the company’s role of President of Autopart International from 2013 to 2017.

During his career that has spanned more than 20 years, Creedon also has worked with Sensormatic, the retail security division of Tyco International, with a focus on North America Sales and Operations from 2010 to 2013. Prior to working with Sensormatic, Creedon worked in a number of leadership positions at Tyco International and ADT Security that included finance management, business development and working within mergers and acquisitions.

“Mike’s impressive career in retail is rooted in a deep knowledge and understanding of his customers,” said Witynski in a statement. “Mike will be instrumental in driving the execution of our strategy, and a key leader supporting our culture transformation in Dollar Tree, Family Dollar and Dollar Tree Canada stores.”
