Financial services and POS solution Square has launched a new consumer-facing app that lets customers search, discover and book appointments with beauty and personal care professionals.

Called Square Go, the new app integrates with the seller-facing Square Appointments service, which launched in 2014 and helps service providers schedule and manage customer appointments.

The Square Go app, available for free for both consumers and businesses, is currently available in the U.S. for iOS devices. Currently, only beauty and personal care sellers using Square Appointments are eligible to be featured in Square Go, but the company said it plans to expand beyond these two categories in the near future.

“This launch marks a significant milestone for Square sellers and their customers as we continue investing in software that equips businesses with powerful omnichannel tools,” said Alyssa Henry, CEO of Square in a statement. “We believe Square Go is an important step in helping sellers make more sales by offering seller discovery and exceptional customer experiences.”

Since the launch of Square Appointments in 2014, businesses have booked more than 488 million appointments on the platform, and the service continues to grow — in June 2023, nearly 10 million consumers booked with Square Appointments, an increase of 15% year-over-year, according to the company.

The Square Go app automatically creates business profiles for eligible merchants based on their existing booking site; merchants can then customize their profile if they wish. Square Go also automatically solicits verified reviews and feedback following an appointment that are then displayed in a seller’s profile. Additionally, businesses can solicit private feedback through the app to better improve operations and customer service. To help businesses retain and grow their customer relationships, Square Go also will share timely rebooking prompts following an appointment to encourage consumers to schedule their next visit.

At the outset, consumers are able to:

  • Discover local businesses based on location, service and availability;
  • Receive personalized recommendations based on previous booking patterns;
  • Receive appointment notifications and reschedule or cancel existing bookings; and
  • Easily rebook by viewing their previous appointment history.

Future improvements will include allowing consumers to join waitlists, experience more advanced business recommendations when looking for new providers and pay in-app following a booking.
