Abercrombie Hires New Head Of Diversity And Inclusion

1darnoAbercrombie & Fitch has appointed Jeanetta Darno as its new VP of Diversity and Inclusion. In this role, Darno will be responsible for enhancing the existing global diversity and hiring throughout the organization.

Darno most recently led diversity and inclusion efforts at Huntington National Bank, and is a founding member of both the Central Ohio Diversity Consortium and the Women’s Leadership Council. At Abercrombie, she will report to John Gabrielli, SVP and Head of Human Resources.

Abercrombie’s diversity and inclusion initiatives have ramped up in the midst of a religious discrimination lawsuit that the U.S. Supreme Court weighed in on this summer.

“We are committed to fostering an environment that embraces diverse perspectives from across our organization,” said Gabrielli. “Creating an inclusive culture is a priority for our business and serves as a cornerstone of our corporate values. Jeanetta brings more than 22 years of experience and a solid track record of achievement to her role at A&F Co. She is a natural fit to help advance our efforts in this area and we look forward to having her on board.”

Although the retailer has been under scrutiny in the past for its hiring practices, it also has received acclaim, particularly from the Human Rights Campaign. Since 2006, the HRC has awarded Abercrombie with a 100% Corporate Equality Index score, recognizing the company as one of the “Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality.”
