American Airlines, Barnes & Noble.com To Implement New MasterCard PayPass Wallet Services Solution

American Airlines and Barnes & Noble are among the first merchant partners to incorporate new capabilities available from MasterCard’s new PayPass Wallet Services product. The new global offering for banks, merchants and partners endeavors to provide secure online purchases through PCs and mobile devices. PayPass Wallet Services delivers three distinct components: PayPass Acceptance Network, PayPass Wallet and PayPass API.

MasterCard will make PayPass Wallet Services available to partners in the third quarter of 2012, initially in the U.S., Canada, UK and Australia, with other countries to follow, according to a company press release. American Airlines and Barnes & Noble will incorporate the PayPass Online checkout button on their web sites, and American will integrate PayPass Wallet into its mobile application. “We’re passionate about giving our customers more flexibility and functionality on their mobile devices,” said Richard Elieson, Managing Director of Interactive Marketing at American Airlines. “By integrating PayPass into our mobile app, payment transactions become fast and easy, and provide the security you would expect from a brand like MasterCard.”

“Barnes & Noble is proud to be leading retail in the technology shift [to smartphones],” stated Marc Parrish, VP, Retention and Loyalty Marketing Barnes & Noble.com. “Smartphone adoption has exploded, with well over 50% of Americans now owning one. The technology that will allow customers to make mobile payments at the point of sale already has begun to make a difference,” he said, reiterating his company’s lead in offering new solutions to smartphone users.
