Trax Acquires Shopping Rewards App Shopkick

Trax, a Singapore-based computer vision and analytics solution for retail, has acquired Shopkick, a shopping rewards app, with the goal of uniting the mobile and physical retail worlds for global and regional retailers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

With the acquisition, Trax aims to gain a better understanding of consumers’ online and offline shopping habits, through the integration of Trax technologies and Shopkick’s path-to-purchase offerings.

As part of the deal, Shopkick will operate independently under the Trax brand, continuing to focus on its customers and community from its Redwood City, Calif. headquarters.

“Bridging together shelf and shopper data will deliver new and powerful insights to CPG brands and retailers,” said Joe Bar-El, CEO and Co-Founder of Trax in a statement. “Shopkick’s unique direct access to customers, first-party database on consumer in-store actions, omnichannel insights and access to a broader ecosystem of retailers and brands made this a strategic fit for Trax.”

The acquisition announcement comes less than a month after Trax reported it will be merging with LenzTech, a Chinese retail AI and Big Data service, to digitize China’s physical retail space.
