CVS Health has partnered with Nuro, a delivery robotics company, to pilot an automated delivery service in the Houston market. Beginning this month, Nuro will use its fleet of vehicles to fulfill prescription and essentials orders placed through CVS.
Th program will initially serve three zip codes near the CVS store in Bellaire, Texas, with no additional delivery fee. Customers who place prescription orders via CVS.com or the CVS Pharmacy app can choose the autonomous delivery option and add other non-prescription items if they wish. Shoppers will need to confirm their identification to unlock their delivery when Nuro’s autonomous vehicle arrives.
“We are seeing an increased demand for prescription delivery,” said Ryan Rumbarger, SVP of Store Operations, CVS Health in a statement. “We want to give our customers more choice in how they can quickly access the medications they need when it’s not convenient for them to visit one of our pharmacy locations.”
This marks Nuro’s second major retail partnership in the area: Kroger also partnered with the company to launch a self-driving delivery pilot at two Houston stores in spring 2019. Nuro also works with Fry Food Stores for a delivery service in Scottsdale, Ariz.
