Report: Apple To Close 11 Recently Reopened Stores Due To Rise In Coronavirus Cases

Apple will close 11 reopened stores in four states where the number of COVID-19 cases are rising, according to NPR. The move will affect two locations in Florida, two in North Carolina, one in South Carolina and six in Arizona.

Apple had planned to have 225 of its 271 U.S. locations operational during the week of June 15, with many only offering curbside pickup at first. However, the company “saw the importance of swift action — and the critical importance of social distance — to slow the virus’ spread,” in China, according to Deirdre O’Brien, Apple’s SVP of Retail + People in a letter to customers last week, which may be one of the reasons for the rapid closures.

“We take this step with an abundance of caution as we closely monitor the situation and we look forward to having our teams and customers back as soon as possible,” said an Apple spokesperson in a statement sent to NPR.
