Oprah Chai Coming To A Starbucks Near You

Anything that Oprah Winfrey touches turns to sold – companies featured on her “Favorite Things” segment can attest to that.

So it’s only right that the talk show/media mogul invests in her own personal brand by creating things that she loves. And apparently tea is one of them.

Last week, Winfrey took the stage with Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz during the company’s annual meeting, announcing the release of Teavana Oprah Chai Tea.

Do you smell what Winfrey’s brewin’?

Apparently, Winfrey collaborated with Teavana tea experts to concoct the recipe, creating a “bold infusion” of cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and cloves, blended with loose-leaf black tea and rooibos. (Note: For those who don’t know, rooibos is a broom-like member of the legume family of plants growing in South Africa. Learn something new every day!)

The chai tea will go on sale at Starbucks and Teavana stores starting April 29, 2014. Proceeds from sales will go towards educational charities and philanthropic ventures, including the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls, according to recent Forbes article

“My daily tea ritual is a vital part of my morning,” Winfrey said. “Savory and spicy chai, with its deep flavor, has long been a favorite of mine. When Howard Schultz offered to have me come into the Starbucks tasting room and create my very own tea blend, I thought that sounded like such a unique opportunity and fun to the tenth power.”

So what do you think? Is this celebrity deal a good call for Starbucks?
