Listen Up! 3 Retail Podcasts With Something To Say

0aaklaudia

One of my New Year’s resolutions for 2018 — albeit easy to accomplish — is to listen to more podcasts. Whether they’re simply just for fun or for editorial purposes, I resolve to listen more and hear what influential people in the world have to say about important topics. I watch more TV than I’d like to admit so it will be refreshing to shut my eyes and digest content in a new way.

I know podcasts aren’t necessarily a new thing. They’ve been around for quite some time, but they’ve skyrocketed as a content format in the past two years — thanks to Serial. The good news is people are listening! 2017 research from Edison revealed that 40% of Americans (age 12+) said they have listened to a podcast.

If you’re like me and want to get on the podcast bandwagon, I rounded up three of my current retail-themed favorites that I came across on iTunes (with great reviews from listeners). They’re both insightful and entertaining — perfect to listen to while you have your morning cup of coffee, checking emails or commuting to work!

The Jason & Scot Show

Stars on iTunes: 5

Podcast episode length: 50 to 60 minutes

Key topic(s): Management & Marketing / e-Commerce

Jason Goldberg is the SVP of Commerce & Content at SapientRazorfish and Scot Wingo is the Founder & Executive Chairman at Channel Advisor. The two experts sit down to discuss key trends and the latest news in e-Commerce and digital shopper marketing. The podcast often features thought leaders and retail executives from brands like Nordstrom, Modcloth, Kohl’s and Puma. Bonus: occasional pop culture banter.

Reviews:

“This is a ‘must follow’ crew if e-Commerce is relevant to your career or personal interests. These guys know what they are talking about and manage to make what could be a dry subject quite entertaining.”

“Jason & Scot do a great job distilling big topics in e-Comm and retail with a good mix of facts and expert perspectives. Definitely looking forward to many more episodes. This will be a must-listen.”

Retail Gets Real

Stars on iTunes: 5

Podcast episode length: under 30 minutes

Key topic: Management and Marketing

The National Retail Federation hosts this podcast, discussing trends, success stories and the future of retail. This was one of my favorite retail podcasts as it is very conversational and delivers a lot of different perspectives on the industry. Episodes often include guests from retailers such as Bluemercury, The Home Depot and Neiman Marcus. Bonus: the latest happenings from the NRF.

Reviews:

“I love to hear how other people in my situation handle the same issues I deal with every day, and I’m inspired when I hear from those who actually started their own business.”

“Retail store owners and managers should listen. I think if I owned a retail shop I would probably want to pay attention to this podcast.”

FutureCommerce

Stars on iTunes: 5

Podcast episode length: 30 to 60+ minutes

If you’re eager to learn about the latest toys and technologies in retail, this podcast is for you. Hosts Phillip Jackson, e-Commerce Evangelist for Something Digital, and Brian Lange, Director – West Coast for Something Digital, peer into the future of digital commerce and offer interesting point of views on new-age trends such as virtual reality, gamification, augmented reality and more.

Reviews:

“This is a podcast that every retailer needs to hear. Lots of incredible insight into the future of digital commerce. I love their outlook and they have great rapport.”
