Best Buy and Atrium Health Partner to Provide Enhanced At-Home Hospital Care

Best Buy Health will work with Atrium Health to develop new hospital-at-home offerings, helping enable providers to deliver high-quality care while reducing emotional and financial burdens on patients and caregivers.

Atrium Health already has a strong position in telemedicine and a well-established hospital-at-home program, combined with a patient population of nearly 3 million people. Atrium Health and Best Buy Health will address the complex requirements of these programs, including patient education and enabling of in-home technology with the help of logistics and tech support from specially trained Geek Squad Agents.

The new partnership also will draw on Best Buy’s strengths: “We’re excited to leverage our expertise in omnichannel, supply chain, Caring Center support and services, in-home support and our ability to connect patients and providers through Current Health’s care-at-home platforms,” said Deborah Di Sanzo, President of Best Buy Health in a statement.

“Our partnership with Best Buy Health will help change the lives of our patients and consumers, giving them access to the tools and experiences they need to receive care in the comfort of their own home,” said Dr. Rasu Shrestha, Chief Innovation and Commercialization Officer at Advocate Health, of which Atrium Health is a part, in a statement. “Our surveys show high levels of patient satisfaction for our hospital-at-home experience, and the use of virtual care is a valuable tool in our efforts to eradicate both economic and geographic disparities in accessing health care services.

Best Buy has been moving steadily into “medtail” since its 2017 introduction of Assured Living services, which use non-invasive home sensors to help adult children remotely check on the health and safety of their aging parents. In 2018, Best Buy bought GreatCall, a provider of connected health and personal emergency response services, for $800 million, and the retailer acquired the Current Health care-at-home technology platform in 2021. Additionally, the retailer added the Best Buy Health Lively app on the Apple Watch in 2021.
