BJ’s Enhances Inventory Operations with Microservices-Based Solution

BJ’s Wholesale Club is replacing its legacy order management system with Nextuple OMS Studio, which includes three “Tuples” —  each an ordered set of microservices that the retailer can mix and match to create solutions for flexible fulfillment.

These Tuples are built on a cloud-native and cloud-agnostic tech stack, and the Studio technology can be delivered in deployment models including SaaS and source code ownership. The Tuples available to BJ’s are:

  • Promise: Four major composable microservices for promising, sourcing, inventory and capacity, enabling retailers to craft a range of omnichannel fulfillment use cases using geolocation or SLA (service-level agreement) availability strategies and optimizing based on speed, cost or custom rules;

  • Orchestrate: Four composable microservices for the order state engine, order store, managing order APIs and order management will allow BJ’s to build a unified order store across all channels, giving consumers visibility across interactions; and

  • Fulfill: Five composable microservices offering flexible store-based fulfillment, digital order queueing, picking, staging operations, packing/shipping and dispensing.

“BJ’s joins our growing community of national retail and grocery chains, totaling over $100 billion in revenue and more than 30,000 locations throughout North America, in leveraging microservices to quickly stand up new capabilities that improve operations, delight customers and lower costs,” said Darpan Seth, CEO of Nextuple in a statement.

BJ’s rolled out shelf-scanning inventory robots to all 237 of its stores in March 2023 and named a new CIO, Anjana Harve, in September 2023.
