Ikea will open its new store on London’s Oxford Street on May 1, 2025, featuring 62,430 square feet of retail space across three levels. The opening follows a three-year renovation of the building that included enhancing environmental performance by replacing gas-fired boilers with energy-efficient air source heat pumps and installing secondary glazing for improved insulation.
Visitors to the new store will enter into a London-inspired space featuring curated shops co-created with Londoners to reflect the city, and the retailer’s unique style. The store also will feature a home planning hub offering complimentary one-on-one design consultations with Ikea home furnishings experts and a selection of 3,500 affordable home furnishings accessories and small furniture. Customers can have larger pieces delivered to their homes or to a network of pickup points.
“Whether a local Londoner or a tourist passing through, Ikea Oxford Street aims to inspire home dreams for everyone — offering beautifully designed, functional furnishings at prices affordable for as many people as possible,” said Peter Jelkeby, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer of Ikea UK in a statement.
Building Restoration Led by Ingka
Ikea’s parent company Ingka Investments oversaw the renovation of the building, which will also house three other retailers and four floors of office space. In addition to the sustainability improvements, the renovation included meticulous cleaning and restoration of the building’s historic façade and the addition of nighttime illumination.

“London is an iconic shopping destination, and we are thrilled to now have a home in its center,” said Jelkeby. “Ikea Oxford Street’s location complements our network of stores in London — and beyond — and allows us to be closer to where our customers live, work and shop.”
Ikea opened its first standalone restaurant in London’s Hammersmith district in November 2024. In the U.S., Ikea plans to open eight new smaller-format stores this year.
