UPDATE: Amazon Offers 50% Off Everything in ‘Haul’ to Drive Consumers to New Discount Site

[Update as of Nov. 22, 2024] In an unvarnished bid to drive holiday shoppers to try its new discount site Haul, Amazon is now offering shoppers 50% off everything in the store. Products in the store already are priced under $20, so the promotion represents a major discounting initiative (and likely a not insignificant hit to Amazon’s profits) as it seeks to draw shoppers away from competitive upstarts like Temu in advance of the Cyber Week shopping rush. The move is classic Amazon, which has often presented steep discounts on new offerings to drown out competition before again raising prices to more financially viable levels.

Original story from Nov. 13, 2024 begins-

Seeking to compete with ultra-low-price sites such as Shein and Temu, Amazon has introduced Amazon Haul, featuring maximum prices of $20 and one- to two-week shipping times. There have been rumors of the move for months, and now the new shop is officially rolling out in beta. It will be available to U.S. Amazon customers when they next update their Amazon Shopping app.

“Amazon Haul aims to help make shopping for fashion, home, lifestyle, electronics and other products even more fun, easy and affordable, all backed by Amazon’s A-to-z product guarantee so customers can shop with confidence that the products they’re purchasing are safe, authentic and in the condition expected,” said Dharmesh Mehta, VP of Worldwide Selling Partner Services at Amazon in a statement. “It’s early days for this experience, and we’ll continue to listen to customers as we refine and expand it in the weeks and months to come.”

Amazon Haul has its own search, cart and checkout separate from Amazon’s. The majority of products offered are priced at $10 or less, with some as low as $1. Customers that create larger “hauls” get additional discounts: 5% off orders of $50 or more and 10% off orders of $75 and up. The retailer is offering free returns on all Amazon Haul purchases over $3 within 15 days of delivery, and shoppers can drop off these returns at more than 8,000 drop-off locations, including Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, UPS, Staples and Amazon Lockers.
