Michaels is stepping into the gap left by the recent demise of Party City with plans to add 500 new party supply products, additional balloon options and enhancements to its in-store events. The party supplies assortment enlargement, both in stores and online, will begin in August 2025.
The 300+ new balloon options include premade balloon bouquets, including graduation arrangements, along with all the accessories needed to complete a balloon display such as weight stands, ribbon and helium tanks. In addition to unique designs such as the Pretty Pink Bow, Michaels plans to expand its kids’ licensed balloons and animated characters selection. Customers can use BOPIS to order balloons or have them delivered by Instacart or DoorDash.
Events Menu to Include MakeBreaks and Safari Saturdays
Michaels hosted nearly 5,000 parties and served 42,000 kids across the U.S. and Canada in 2024, and the retailer is seeking to build on that in-store events momentum with:
- New seasonal event themes for spring and summer, already available for customers to book online and including options for both younger and older kids;
- Add-ons including balloon bouquets, goody bags, slime and pizza/drinks;
- Safari Saturdays for kids aged six and older, held every Saturday through the month of July. For $10 parents can shop while their kids craft and express their creativity;
- MakeBreaks, taking place once a month, that allow customers to gather in-store and create a project from start to finish for $10; and
- Private events in dedicated spaces, with Michaels providing all the supplies needed for group crafting projects such as paint pouring, self-care crafting, knitting and plushie making.
“As the destination for creating and celebrating in communities across North America, Michaels is committed to helping our customers create unforgettable celebrations for life’s most precious moments and milestones,” said Stacey Shively, Chief Merchandising Officer at Michaels in a statement.
