Temu has partnered with Eurofins Consumer Product Testing to support greater transparency in the discount retailer’s product safety processes and enhance quality control, helping ensure that products sold on the Temu platform meet safety and regulatory standards. The testing company also will support the Temu seller onboarding process by conducting key product certification tests.
Along with its competitor Shein, Temu has struggled with consumer and governmental concerns that some of the products it sells are hazardous. In September 2024 two commissioners at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission called for an investigation into foreign-owned ecommerce sites, naming Temu and Shein specifically, following reports about unsafe products being sold on their sites.
However, Temu’s (and other retailers’) actual responsibilities for ensuring product safety is unclear. Last month, Amazon sued the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission over its 2024 directive, which said the marketplace was responsible for the sale of hazardous and recalled products on its site.
Tests and Independent Inspections on the Way
Temu has decided to be proactive with this new partnership. Tests to be conducted by Eurofins will include Toy CPC (Children’s Product Certificate), Adult Apparel GCC (General Certificate of Conformity), Outdoor Furniture GPSR EU EN581-1 Physical Safety Testing, and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) + RoHS Test Reports.

Additionally, the Eurofins Assurance division will conduct independent inspections across multiple product categories, including textiles, apparel, jewelry, toys, outdoor furniture and electrical products.
“At Temu, we are dedicated to providing a secure and reliable shopping experience,” said a Temu spokesperson in a statement. “Strengthening our product safety measures is a key priority, and by working with Eurofins Consumer Product Testing and Eurofins Assurance, we are reinforcing our commitment to ensuring that products on our platform meet high safety and compliance standards.”
