Toys ‘R’ Us, which already has established brick-and-mortar presences in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, is venturing even further south for its next debut. Parent company WHP Global has partnered with leading South American retailer Ripley to bring Toys ‘R’ Us to Peru and Chile via shop-in-shops at Ripley department stores. The first location is still under evaluation; Toys ‘R’ Us has scheduled these South American debuts for Q4 2025, and this initial phase will be accompanied by an ecommerce presence.
“We are thrilled to partner with Ripley, a strong retailer that shares our vision of creating memorable experiences for families,” said Jamie Uitdenhowen, EVP of Toys ‘R’ Us at WHP Global in a statement. “Chile and Peru are markets that value quality and innovation in retail — values that have defined Toys ‘R’ Us for over 70 years.”
This type of partnership has been the model for WHP Global’s brand expansion into new markets. In December 2024 Toys ‘R’ Us announced brick-and-mortar debuts in Central America and the Caribbean in partnership with Cotton Candy International; the retailer already had established a presence in Mexico thanks to its April 2023 partnership with El Puerto de Liverpool. In April 2024 Toys ‘R’ Us expanded its partnership with WHSmith for 30 additional shop-in-shops at the UK retailer’s stores.
“This is a great moment for Ripley and for families in Chile and Peru,” said Jacko Alvo, Corporate Business Manager at Ripley Corp. in a statement. “With this alliance, Ripley will be one of the first retailers in Latin America to integrate this iconic chain into its commercial offering.”
