48% of Shoppers Want Retailers to Use SMS for Order Shipping Updates

Retailers have some work to do when it comes to delivering great SMS notifications: just 15% of consumers ranked retailers as the best at text updates, putting retail at No. 4 in a ranking of 10 industries. The most relevant SMS message topics are: updates on shipping tracking for products (48%); receiving order status and confirmations (44%); and receiving offers and promotions (28%).

However, retailers need to ensure that their customers want SMS updates in the first place. Shoppers cited receiving SMS notifications without signing up for them (25%), the lack of an opt-out option (19%) and receiving too many notifications in general (19%) as their top pet peeves.
