Walmart’s newest partnership with Minecraft marks a new stage in its evolving “Adaptive Retail” strategy. The epicenter of the collaboration is Skyward, a story-driven gaming experience that starts on Earth and allows players to embark on missions across different planes to find the “Golden Child,” who has left the planet to fulfill a dream. Players can access the game through the Minecraft Java server through May 15, 2025.
In addition to the Skyward gaming experience, Walmart will offer Minecraft physical merchandise, including Walmart-exclusive “A Minecraft Movie” items. All items can be found on the Walmart Minecraft ecommerce site and will be available for purchase via Walmart’s Skyward Discord server. Items include the exclusive Nerf Super Soaker Minecraft Turtle Water Blaster (available for $14.96), Minecraft Netherite Sword (for $10.97) and Minecraft-branded backpacks and launch bags ($19.98).
In February 2025, Walmart unveiled Walmart Unlimited, a three-part gaming series on the Spatial platform that includes commerce functionality. The retailer’s gaming efforts add to its robust innovation strategy, which includes mobile games, AR experiences and partnerships with Roku and NBCUniversal.
