Walmart Taps StockX to Bolster Marketplace Sneaker Assortment

Walmart has forged a new partnership with StockX that will bring pre-verified sneakers from the resale site to the retailer’s online marketplace. With this partnership, StockX will bring “hundreds of listings” to Walmart’s site, reaffirming the company’s focus on growing its resale business, according to Bloomberg.

Although specific styles were not shared, brands ranging from Adidas to Asics, Jordan Brand and Nike will have a presence when the integration launches, which could be as early as next week. This is the first time StockX has integrated its inventory into an outside marketplace experience.

The deal will help StockX raise brand awareness to a much larger base of consumers. Although the company reported having 15 million lifetime buyers and 1.7 million lifetime sellers, partnering with a company as big as Walmart will allow the brand to go outside “sneaker culture.”

The partnership fits with Walmart’s goals for its Marketplace, which the company revealed has seen more than 30% sales growth in each of the past four quarters. However, the company remains laser-focused on growing its marketplace business even further and expanding its seller base to better compete with Amazon. News of the partnership comes shortly after Walmart unveiled new marketplace categories, including Resold at Walmart and Collector Shop, to better illustrate its expanded product assortment and improved curation.
