Nordstrom Launches Branded Podcast Hosted by Retailer’s President

Nordstrom podcast

Nordstrom is jumping into the world of audio content with the launch of a new branded podcast, The Nordy Pod, hosted by the company’s President and Chief Brand Officer Pete Nordstrom.

Billed as “a new way for Nordstrom-obsessed customers to peek behind the curtain,” the podcast will explore topics that are relevant to brands and designers in today’s fashion landscape and spotlight “prominent industry voices.”

The first two episodes of the podcast, featuring conversations with Mickey Drexler, CEO of fashion brand Alex Mill and Pete’s brother, Nordstrom CEO Erik Nordstrom, are already live. In addition to retail and fashion industry leaders, future episodes will also feature longtime Nordstrom employees.

“I want this podcast to serve as a vehicle to help tell stories — stories about our business, our industry, our customers, and of course, our people,” said Pete Nordstrom in a statement. “If you want to connect with people more authentically, it’s important to have those honest conversations. What we’ve learned over the past couple of years is that you have to stand for something or you end up standing for nothing. I want to give people insight into the company and the things we stand for, and hopefully, they’ll learn more about the Nordstrom story along the way.”

Nordstrom isn’t the first retail brand to enter the brave new world of podcasting, and likely won’t be the last. With podcast listening on the rise across nearly all age groups, brands are finding the format to be an effective and low-cost marketing vehicle.

A few other retailer-branded podcasts that have popped up in recent years include:

  • #LIPSTORIES created by Girlboss Radio in partnership with Sephora;
  • Open for Business from eBay;
  • In addition to its own Outside the Box podcast, Walmart also has partnered with Who What Wear for the Who What Wear with Hillary Kerr podcast to promote its new private label brand Free Assembly;
  • Why We Eat What We Eat from Blue Apron; and
  • Thank God It’s Monday from Shopify.
