Following a 16-store pilot of curbside pickup, Sam’s Club is rolling out the service to all of its 597 locations. The offering, which includes a same-day pickup option, will be free to Sam’s Club Plus-level members and will be offered at no cost to all members for a limited time.
“While free Curbside Pickup is a new Plus member benefit, we recognize all of our members are looking for contact-free shopping options as part of the current environment,” said Lance de la Rosa, COO of Sam’s Club in a statement.
After setting up an account, members can place their orders via the Sam’s Club app or at samsclub.com, selecting from items marked “Pick up in Club.” After completing their online shopping list and selecting a pickup time, members arriving at the club use a designated pickup spot, where a Sam’s Club associate will load the items into their cars.
Curbside pickup has become a highly desired offering in retail since the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic. In April, Sam’s Club sister retailer Walmart added specific pickup times for at-risk shoppers at 2,400 stores. Discount supermarket Aldi recently expanded its curbside pickup service to 600 stores.
“Sam’s Club members have been integrating technology into their shopping habits for a while with Scan & Go, samsclub.com and in-club pickup,” said de la Rosa. “As we continue to innovate to make the shopping experience better and faster for our members, we’re proud to be able to quickly implement and offer curbside pickup across the country, particularly during a time when they are searching for alternative ways to shop.”
