REI Expands in Women’s Activewear Through Athleta Collaboration

REI Co-op will stock a curated selection of Athleta products at 135 of its stores nationwide and online. The wholesale partnership will help Athleta meet its goal of reaching $2 billion in net sales by 2023 while giving REI a selection of women’s activewear items — a category that has held strong throughout the pandemic.

The collection will include some of Athleta’s core lifestyle, hike and yoga bottoms, along with key tops and accessories. Additionally, REI will carry select extended sizing options, from 0-26, in hiking and fitness apparel at 25% of stores and online.

“We’re constantly looking at new ways to bring Athleta to more customers and meet her where she is, which is an important component of our growth strategy,” said Mary Beth Laughton, President and CEO of Athleta in a statement. “This expanded partnership with REI is an example of how we can extend our reach through a like-minded brand and empower a new community of active women consumers.”

Athleta is REI’s second major retail partnership following the introduction of the REI x West Elm collection in 2020. That collaboration focused more on outdoor furnishings and camping accessories such as folding chairs, reusable melamine tableware, outdoor blankets and pillows and a portable shade shelter.
