eBay, Walgreen To Address e-Commerce Trends At IRCE In San Diego

It’s no secret that social media and mobile devices have changed the e-Commerce shopping experience, and retailers are challenged to cater to the continually changing demands of empowered shoppers. During the Internet Retail Conference & Exhibition (IRCE), June 14-17, 2011 at the San Diego Convention Center, more than 175 speakers will address these and other e-Commerce challenges. On June 15, Christopher Payne, VP and Head of North America at eBay will deliver the opening keynote, sharing insights into eBay’s strategy for mobile, social, local and digital trends and how these trends are impacting the future of shopping.

On June 16, Sona Chawla, President of e-Commerce at Walgreen Co., will discuss how the 7,600-store Walgreens chain redesigned its corporate and mobile sites and gained more than 600,000 Facebook fans. Chawla also will describe how the launch of 24/7 live chat helped cement the company’s customer communication efforts. 

Special guest speaker Arianna Huffington, Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief at The Huffington Post, will explain how the online-only news service became a success, and how the Internet has changed the overall news business. Huffington also will share details about the challenges she faced building her online brand, and offer online retailers lessons based on her experiences.

The conference also will feature turnkey insights presented by speakers from retailers and CPG brands including: P&G, Best Buy, GameStop, Redbox, and Google, Inc.

IRCE conference sessions will focus on retail topics, including:

  • Advanced Search Engine Marketing
  • Financing Growth
  • Social Marketing
  • Mobile Commerce

Retail speakers will share their strategies in marketing to web-based consumers. Speakers will focus on m-commerce and e-Commerce in general and narrow in on the ways the two work collaboratively. In addition, presenters will discuss the opportunities and challenges created by the TV and the Internet merge, changes in online marketing, ensuring customer returns, the affects of the time lapse between purchases on inventory and fulfillment, and how customer service must shift to meet the demands of the new customer. Other topics include new payment and security issues, investments in new technology, staffing and management challenges as well as specific challenges faced by small retailers, and more.

The IRCE exhibit hall will feature 500 booths representing 75 technology market segments displaying the latest e-Commerce technology. Within the exhibit hall, IRCE also will showcase a 200-seat e-Commerce Technology Theater. During the event, solution providers will host 30-minute informational sessions highlighting their companies’ e-Commerce technologies and how their solutions will help in meeting the needs of e-Commerce operators.
