Cellfire and Location Labs Partner To Deliver Location-Driven Grocery Coupons

Cellfire Inc
. is partnering with Location Labs, a provider of mobile Location-as-a-Service infrastructure and applications, for its Store Alerts feature in the new Cellfire iPhone and Android applications. The feature sends real-time alerts about available coupons whenever users are physically near one of their preferred grocery stores, selectable from within Cellfire’s network of 5,000 grocery locations.

While clipping coupons is a dying practice, coupon redemption skyrocketed in 2010. According to NCH Marketing’s Coupon Sherpa report, the 2010 numbers for coupons represent an increase in 21 billion coupons used, with a rise of $200 million in value, compared to 2009. In 2011, It’s clear that the “digital shopper” is dictating coupon distribution methods. NCH tracked a 37% increase in total digital coupon offers, the largest increase across all varieties of coupons.

“Our Geofencing technology, as part of our Sparkle™ Platform, introduces another layer of intelligence making mobile applications more targeted and relevant, for both consumers and brands,” said Akash Agarwal, SVP Platform Products at Location Labs, in a press release. Cellfire’s technology is designed to allow consumers to access grocery coupons easily from their favorite brands via the mobile phone. Selected grocery coupons are immediately loaded to the shopper’s grocery savings card and applied automatically at checkout. To start saving and receiving Store Alerts, consumers can download the Cellfire mobile application at the Apple App Store, the Android Market, or visit Cellfire’s web site from their mobile phone browser. Once the Store Alerts capability is turned on, consumers automatically begin to receive coupon reminders when they are physically near their selected stores. Consumers can choose the conditions and the store locations where they would like to receive Store Alerts.

“We’re always looking for ways to make mobile couponing a more convenient and relevant experience for our users and location is a perfect context,” said Paul Stanley, VP of Marketing and Product Management for Cellfire. “With Store Alerts, consumers won’t forget about any new and saved offers. More importantly, this feature increases the potential for brands and grocers to influence the actual consumer purchasing decisions in-store.”

Cellfire is using Location Labs’ Sparkle™ Platform, a next-generation mobile location, controls, and security platform. The Cellfire application does not record location information and is only used to trigger the Store Alerts capability.
