Primark Pens Contract for Penn District NYC Flagship

Primark is continuing its rapid U.S. expansion in New York City with plans for a new flagship location. The international apparel retailer has signed a lease for a new storefront in Penn District that will have 54,000 square feet of retail selling space. An official opening date has not been confirmed.

The Penn District is a revitalized destination for shopping, dining and entertainment in the heart of NYC. Located across the street from Penn Station on 34th Street, one of the most highly trafficked train stations in the country, the store will be in a prime location for brand awareness and foot traffic.

“As The Penn District is quickly becoming New York’s top destination for exceptional shopping, dining and entertainment, we look forward to working with the Primark team as they welcome their first Manhattan customers to experience all that the new store — and neighborhood — has to offer,” said Ed Hogan, EVP of Retail Leasing at real estate investment firm Vornado, which is leading the revitalization effort, in a statement.

With a space of such size and scale, this Primark flagship will offer far more than fashion. Visitors will be able to browse a vast assortment of everyday essentials, housewares and beauty items across four floors. This will be the brand’s 11th store in New York; its newest location in Queens will open later this year.

“Opening a location in the epicenter of U.S. fashion is going to be an exciting milestone for Primark U.S.,” said Kevin Tulip, Primark U.S. President in a statement. “When the opportunity arose to bring Primark to Herald Square in Manhattan, a store with exceptionally high foot traffic, national influence and perfectly located to attract customers who already know us from other Primark stores in the boroughs and surrounding areas, we knew it was the perfect fit.”

This is the latest move in Primark’s strategic, ten-year expansion in the U.S. With more than 450 stores across 17 countries, the retailer currently operates 27 stores in 11 states across America. Toward the end of the year, Primark will enter its 12th state, Texas, when it opens its doors in the city of McAllen.
