Walgreens is the latest major retailer to announce it is reducing prices as high inflation continues to batter consumers and dampen spending.

The pharmacy chain said it was lowering prices on more than 1,300 national and store brand products across health and wellness, personal care and seasonal categories, and offered a few examples including:

  • One a Day 80-count men’s and women’s gummy vitamins are now $11.99 (previously $13.49);
  • Clean & Clear foaming facial cleanser is now $6.99 (previously $7.99);
  • Eucerin Advance Repair hand cream is now $5.99 (previously $7.29);
  • Squishmallow 16-inch plush toys are now $20 (previously $24.99); and
  • Nice! Mini Pretzels are now $1.99 (previously $2.79).

“Walgreens understands our customers are under financial strain and struggle to purchase everyday essentials,” said Tracey Brown, EVP and President of Walgreens Retail and the company’s Chief Customer Officer in a statement. “We continue to be committed to our customers by lowering prices on over a thousand additional items, something we’ve been doing since October of 2023. Through the myWalgreens loyalty program, our more than 110 million members receive personalized offerings daily.”

Walgreens also plans to introduce a series of promotional campaigns throughout the summer, including the return of Walgreens myW Days in mid-July.

Announcing price reductions has become a popular strategy to lure skittish consumers back to stores as economic conditions continue to challenge consumer spending. Other retailers that have recently announced lowered prices on thousands of items include Target, Walmart, Amazon Fresh, Michaels, Ikea and Aldi.
