Nordstrom Enters Resale Market With ‘See You Tomorrow’ Launch

Nordstrom will launch See You Tomorrow, an omnichannel recommerce experience, on January 31. The resale service will be available both online and inside the retailer’s flagship NYC store, and the physical space also will sell food and beverages through a Bonberi Bodega café.

See You Tomorrow features an edited, authenticated assortment of pre-owned apparel curated by Nordstrom VP of Creative Projects Olivia Kim. At launch, the shop will be stocked with merchandise from the Nordstrom Quality Center, which receives and processes returned and damaged merchandise from Nordstrom’s full-price channels. All items will be cleaned, repaired and refurbished before being sold at See You Tomorrow.

The assortment will include men’s and women’s apparel and shoes, handbags, accessories, children’s wear and a limited selection of jewelry and watches. The brand also will highlight special brand partnerships.

“We want to provide a unique and elevated resale shopping experience that encourages a sense of discovery and provides access to the brands our customers know and love, while giving them a convenient opportunity to participate in the circular fashion economy,” said Kim in a statement. “We want our customers to feel good not only about what they’re buying, but how they’re buying it.”

Shoppers can take their pre-owned items through a customer intake program at the NYC store, where the goods can be exchanged for Nordstrom gift cards. The retailer also plans to launch an online intake program offering the ability to mail in merchandise in the near future.

Nordstrom is handling the backend operations through a partnership with Yerdle, a technology and logistics startup. Yerdle, which also has worked with Taylor Stitch to launch the Restitch recycled clothing line, will assist with the cleaning and repair of items, inventory processing and fulfillment, pricing and authentication of certain luxury designer items in partnership with Entrupy.

Hopping on the resale trend is a smart strategic move for Nordstrom: the category is expected to reach $23 billion by 2023, or $51 billion when accounting for thrift stores and donations, according to research by thredUp. One of the market’s major concerns is counterfeit items, but See You Tomorrow’s work with Yerdle and Entrupy is designed to help the brand maintain high authenticity standards.
